Zombie Rot, RE: RotLD - Necropolis

What…the hell…am I watching? I’m a huge fan of the first three Return of the Living Dead flicks and was really kinda looking forward to this fourth installment. I’m sittin’ here in front of The God, 25 minutes into an upscaled DVD version of this cinematic train wreck and it is a hunk of shit. The acting is not good enough to be considered sub-par, the plot does not adhere to the mythology of the series other than to use the 2,4,5-Trioxin plot device and so far this waste of time is just kind of shambling along, relying on fart and ass jokes to try and keep it propped up. I’m able to sit here and bitch about it and still keep up with what’s happening, which is very little. The scariest looking cadaver I’ve seen so far is the remains of Peter Coyote they cast as the malevolent doctor experimenting on the recently reanimated. If this guy gets any more work done, his permanent smile is going to end up meeting at the back of his skull. Gotta somewhat admire a person so dedicated to the genre that they undergo cosmetic surgery to make themselves look like a freakin’ real life boogeyman. Don’t even have to finish watching this one before giving my humble opinion; avoid this movie unless you enjoy the feeling of bitter disappointment.

Killer Campout

Bring your own bodybag.

A group of pretty, young people head off into the woods for some camping and partying, once there a masked killer starts offing them one by one. Imagine how much time we could all save if for slashers we just said “slasher” as the plot description and let people just assume it would be a masked killer chasing young people around a forest. Anyways, that’s neither here nor there, is it?

Killer Campout is a no-budget slasher flick that was shot in nine days and then sent to me for reviewing. Once here I promptly let it sit on the shelf for several months before popping it in. The moral to this story is: take your time, I’m gonna. Or maybe it’s: you can’t hurry love.

No, that doesn’t even make any sense. But for what it was, it wasn’t bad.

Graduation Day

Some kids are dying to graduate…

Laura Ramstead is only days away from graduating high school, she and the rest of the 1981 class of Midvale High have their whole lives in front of them. But during the last track meet of the year Laura will tragically die of a heart attack during a hundred-meter race. The rest of her life lost in a mere thirty seconds. Although her death is caused by a heart attack, her family and close friends believe that something or someone was actually behind her death. One year later to the day of Laura's death, Midvale High School will be plagued by a bizarre series or murders that all seem to have one thing in common, Laura Ramstead. Is it vengeance from the grave? Or vengeance from another's grief stricken heart? You'll only know if you can survive Graduation Day!

Yeah I know that was a lengthy intro for a teen slasher flick, but hey what can I say I have a flair for the dramatic, but in truth Graduation Day is your standard 80's slasher flick with plenty of blood and T&A to enjoy, but it also has something a little different.

Has Anyone Seen: Silent Hill?

FearNET has it as an HD offering but after having my eyeballs burnt by the cancer-inducing I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (godz, but it’s painful just typing the title), I’m kinda hesitant about committing a little over two hours of my life to this thing. Any o’ you fear fans seen this one and maybe care to let me know if it’s worth the time? Or would I be better off sittin’ thru the original Gojira?

‘The Mad’ World Premiere March 22

Are the folks from Canuckia lucky, or what? First, Fido came out March 16, two months prior to the U.S. release, and I just read the comment the folks from ‘The Mad’ left on myspace, announcing a world premiere in Toronto on March 22, as part of the Canadian Filmakers Festival. Directed by John Kalangis and starring Billy Zane looks like another zomedy that should keep zombie fans entertained. I’ll definitely be there.

Check the Mad trailer.

Determined to use this new found power, Dr. Reinhard unwittingly releases a new breed of deadite upon mankind! Who now will save us all from these unspeakable horrors? The one, the only KING, baby!

Let me start off by acknowledging that that the first two games were not fan favorites. I happen to love the piss out of both of the previous entries. That being said, fellow horror gamers, THIS is the game all Evil Dead fans have been waiting for!

Too Much Work, Not Enough Blood ‘n Guts

Hoo-boy, the Horror Guy has been busy, busy, busy. The Day Job has been a bit on the hairy side lately, not leaving a lot of time to say much to my shrieking public. Still haven’t had a chance to see Zodiac yet; hope to remedy that this weekend. I did manage to score some promising reading material; Max Brook’s World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War is pretty decent so far. Only 30 or so pages into it but I’m really enjoying the interview style of the narrative. Also grabbed a couple of Brian Keene paperbacks, The Rising and City of the Dead, both zombie-themed, of course. Oh yeah, finally got The Devil’s Backbone via NetFlix, but haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. Maybe early tomorrow afternoon. And then there’s that first issue of season eight of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer from Dark Horse Comics that I picked up with this week’s stash. It’s been a good week for horror finds….now if I could just find the time to enjoy some of it.
No time like the present.
