Amazon reveals the cover art to the Stuart Gordon classic.
Captivity Our Second Attempt at a Review
Finally, after so much bullshit persecution Captivity hits the screen. Now, honestly, I didn’t think this film was going to be all that great. The previous footage I’d seen of it gave off a bad Lifetime movie meets Die Hard vibe (and I’m not just making that reference due to Die Hard 4 being resent).
HATCHET Gets ‘R’ Rating!
While Eli Roth skated by the censors with an “R” rating for his HOSTEL II gorefest, Adam Green did not have it so easy with HATCHET. After getting stuck with the dreaded NC-17 rating, he fought for 2 months to get it reduced to a fair R rating. I am beginning to wonder what is so bad about the film… Maybe the board was just pissed they were not paid off.
DR. SATAN - Microwaved Utergiblets - Music Review
To most, this twenty minute fistfukk would be considered ‘anti-music’. To me its like a drug…

Transylvania 6-5000
WANTED: Two thrill-seeking reporters, brains optional, looking to dig up the story of the century. For information call…
Two tabloid reporters are sent to Transylvania to investigate the reappearance of Frankenstein's Monster or find new employment. While there they also encounter a sensitive Wolf Man, a nymphomaniac Vampiress, and a host of other horror staples with a twist.
This movie is straight comedy and the "horror" accentuates that. I look at this as an homage to Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein. While Ed Begley Jr and Jeff Goldblum are no replacement for Abbot and Costello, Goldblum makes for a great Straight man to Begley's Funny man.
Personally, I love this movie, I remember seeing it in the theater in 1985 and it quickly became one of my favorite comedies.
JUNE COMIC BOOK ROUNDUP - HACK/SLASH/MARVEL ZOMBIES/BUMP
I can’t stop laughing. This book had me grinning from ear to ear. Towards the end of issue two, Vlad calls the suave publicist slash silent partner, Chris and informs him of a metal band named “Acid Washed” (egad, that’s a bad name!) has put a spell on all the virgins in the sellout crowd…
Dream Warriors - Music Video
I love YouTube and since Brain Hammer has been on a “Heavy Metal Memories” kick, there is no better time for the Dream Warriors Muscic Video from “A Nigthmare on Elm Street 3!” Enjoy!
New Review: ‘Behind the Mask The Rise of Leslie Vernon’
Not a bad spoof of slasher films
Side Sho Trailer
Trailer for the 2007 horror film SIDE SHO, by Lucky Kitty Productions. Directed by Michael D’Anna
DEAD AGAIN: HORROR’S LAST GASP by Patrick Green
As reported here last week, a piece in The New York Times has declared the horror genre dead, leaving us all with no choice but to divert our love and money toward some other genre or pursuit. We won’t have any further inspiration to murder toddlers. And if we’re going to commit heinous acts in the name of Our Lord Satan, we’ll have to do so without the well-planned blueprints of Hollywood screenwriters.
HEAVY METAL MEMORIES - THE JOHN FASANO INTERVIEW!
They had scenes where characters were killed and then put in an earlier scene after that where the guy was still alive. A mess. Also, they used the original negative to cut the trailer, so all the best shots in the trailer were GONE and could not be used in the film.
1408 - Movie Review (2007)
In keeping with “1408’s” theme of a numerical title, I thought we would play the numbers game real fast. Not counting sequels, short films or anthology television shows, “1408″ is the 45th film to be based of a Stephen King story since “Carrie” was released back in 1976. 45 films over a 30 year period has yield only 15 decent Stephen King films with the top 3 of his adaptations oddly being his least horrific; “The Shining”, “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Misery.” Unfortunately for Mr. King (and the audience) “1408″ does not cause the “good” King films to grow to 16. Instead it joins the likes of “The Langoliers”, “The Dark Half”, “The Mangler”, “Dolores Claiborne” and 25 other shitty flicks that attempt to ride the Stephen King cash cow.
Creepshow III
Tales of murder, mayhem and madness
After myriad negative reviews and a direct to video release, I decided to relinquish the last, lingering vestiges of my sense of shame and invest 104 minutes of my life into Creepshow III.
This film is neither the best or worst horror anthology I have ever seen. Nor is it by any known definition of the term the worst sequel I have ever seen (still gotta give that up to Howling II.) What we have here is a mediocre film with one or two bright spots.
As in the original classic, this Creepshow gives us five macabre tales. This time all of the stories unfold within a single suburban neighborhood and each one in some fashion is centered around a crackpot scientist by the name of Professor Dayton.
Brain Hammer’s Picks From The Crypt Vol.9: More Heavy Metal Memories!
Are your ears still ringing from last week’s column? If so, the sheer VOLUME of this week’s PICKS FROM THE CRYPT will make your brain explode and your ears cry for mercy! Less talk, more rock. Let the heavy metal memories continue!
MPD-Psycho Manga Published
The MPD-Psycho manga series made popular by Takashi Miike’s TV version is finally getting its US release by Dark Horse Comics. Once deemed too violent and sleazy, MPD-Psycho is already available for purchase shrink-wrapped with an 18+ content advisory.
Monster Squad DVD Trailer

An interesting day for DVD releases, highlighted mostly by the sublime “The Abandoned,” one of the best horror films of the year to be exact. An absolute must grab.
Never-Ending ‘Halloween’ Photos — and Why This Film Is So Important for the Genre
Even more images from Rob Zombie’s ‘Halloween’ have surfaced. Meanwhile, it’s becoming clear that the box office performance of “Halloween” is going to be critical for the genre we all love. In fact, if this film bombs, we can probably expect to see the genre sink into the moribund direct-to-video-only mess that it was in throughout the first half of the 1990s.
