D-War Poster and Trailer!

I just found this over at Obsessedwithfilm the Korean film “D-War” I know nothing about it besides this poster (See Larger Poster Here) and the trailer (See Here) look really cool. I will be keeping my eyes and ears open for more news on this film.

Primeval (2007) - Movie Review

PRIMEVAL is actually kinda-sorta based on a true story. Well, the story’s as fake as Dina Lohan’s parenting skills, but the Croc? He’s real. He has been named Gustave by the locals in his home along the Ruzizi River in the African nation of Burundi. To date, Gustav has claimed a confirmed 110 people (far from the 300 claimed in the film’s press materials) and is estimated to be sixty years of age, though the citizens of Burundi claim he is well over a hundred (THANKS, WIKIPEDIA!).

BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE (2007) - Movie Review

The most laughably bad film (horror or otherwise) of 2007, BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE, seems less like it was written by paid professionals and more like it was torn from the journal of a thirteen year old Goth girl who saw MOULIN ROUGE too many times and has a Laurell K. Hamilton fetish. No sense of humor, no grace, no wit, and EVERYTHING is stated as though the weight of ALL EXISTANCE depends on what she thinks is cool.

Resident Evil 4 Already?

With the third Resident Evil installment; Extinction still months away from theatrical release, negotiations for Resident Evil 4 are already in the works.

Actually, they are taking advantage of a few of Dario Argento’s classics. Coming out on DVD, courtesy of Blue Underground, is SUSPIRIA, CAT O’NINE TAILS, OPERA, and STENDHAL SYNDROME. All DVDs will be available on Sept. 25th.

Alone in the Dark Video Game News

Okay, so the “Alone in the Dark” games were semi-hits that spawned 2 crappy movies. But we have a new “Alone in the Dark” on the horizon for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms coming this winter.

Evolver

It was supposed to be a game.

A virtual-reality video game gets ported to real life and one of the best players in the country gets the opportunity to try to win a robot version of the arcade game. The problem is that Evolver is programmed to win at all costs.

My sister and I rented this when it first came out. I enjoyed the storyline and the way everything played out. Basically, a kid wins a robot from a virtual reality video game and has to "play" the game in real life. What he doesn't know is that Evolver is a failed military project that was abandoned because the robot started to kill people and got "too smart for its own good."

Everything about this movie is pretty cheesy.

Animated ‘Hellboy’ Hits Stores This Week

We don’t normally cover animated films here at eSplatter, but if Guillermo del Toro is involved, they’re at least worth talking about.

Connelly to Star in Barker and Del Toro’s ‘Born’

Clive Barker and Guillermo del Toro collaborate to produce “Born,” a new “thriller” that may or may not qualify as a horror film.

Box Office Blahs: ‘Hostel Part II,’ ‘28 Weeks Later’ Disappoint

Despite great reviews from fans, “Hostel Part II” and “28 Weeks Later” were big disappointments at the box office, which has many in the industry worried that the horror genre is on life support.

Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof’ Gets Solo DVD release

Quentin Tarantino’s half of “Grindhouse” is now heading to DVD by itself on Sept. 18. No word on when “Planet Terror” will be hitting disc. “Grindhouse” flopped at the box office and Dimension Films has been struggling to find an effective way of making its money back. It seems breaking off the Tarantino segment and releasing it solo to disc is one idea.

New ‘Mother of Tears’ Photos

The best photos yet from Dario Argento’s new film.

NY Times Declares Horror Dead

The New York Times published a piece yesterday claiming Hostel 2’s weak opening put the nail in the coffin of the horror genre. The article cites the weak performance of Grindhouse, 28 Weeks Later, and most of last year’s horror releases as signs the genre is on it’s last legs, with Saw III the lone exception to the rule.

Masters of Horror: Pelts

Feldmans Fine Furs is having a bad year and in fact if they dont come up with a show stopping entry at the upcoming fur fashion show, they may close there doors forever. But when a couple of backwoods hicks offer Mr. Feldman some extraordinary furs they have come across, Feldmans eyes light up at the quality of the pelts. But as Feldman begins to fashion his coat, strange things begin to happen, is it coincidence or is it something else?

Pelts is Dario Argentos second contribution to the Masters of Horror series, and like much of his other works this one falls into the land of bizarre horror quickly.

House of Re-Animator Coming Soon?

Rumors of another sequel to “Re-Animator” and even an entire new trilogy have been buzzing around for quite some time now. First, Stuart Gordon said he had cast William H. Macy as the dead president that Dr. Herbert West is brought in to resurrect in “House of Re-Animator.” Next, Brian Yuzna reported that he was planning a whole new trilogy starting with “House” and followed by “Re-Animator Unbound” and “Re-Animator Begins.”

GO SEE HOSTEL!

I decided to pass up seeing “Hostel” this weekend, because I can’t stand crowds. So I figure I would see Spider-Man one last time and catch “Hostel” Monday to miss the crowds, but something dawned on me when I was at the movie theater. “Hostel 2″ is opening up against “Ocean’s 13″ which means horror fans need to skip that blockbuster fluff and support the genre.

BUMP – Issue #1 - Fangoria Comics

“Well it’s about time.” There. That’s my quote. Easy, but none the truer. If there ever was a company that should have a line of horror comic books out there in your Doritos-smelling comic shop, it’s Fangoria. The respected monster book filled with blood, guts, babes, and everything you wanted to know about upcoming horror movies has finally opened the doors to the funny books. Yes folks, the empty chair at the end of the dinner table has finally been seated.
