Hatchet on DVD In Time For Christmas

The small horror film Hatchet had a decent theatrical run, but Anchor Bay decided to pull it from the big screen so they could release the DVD in time for Christmas. Director Adam Green had this to say on the official Hatchet Message Board:

Exclusive Interview: Scott Thomas, Director of ‘Flight of the Living Dead’

The film is a classic.

No More Fangoria Comics

When I heard Fangoria was launching their own comic line, the first thing that came to my mind was; “I wonder how long that will last?” Well the answer is… not very long. Fangoria just sent out a press release stating:

Black Sheep (2007) Movie Review

Black Sheep” joins a growing list of disappointments for horror fans in 2007. At the top of the list is Rob Zombie’s dismal and unapologetically self righteous remake of “Halloween” followed closely by the much over hyped “Behind the Mask” and the shit trickles downhill from there.

Resident Evil Extinction - Lazy Movie Review

First off, I dug the first two Resident Evil movies. They were decent enough in themselves and had action. Extinction however.. dull, dull, dull. It wasn’t even close to Carrie meets Mad Max of the Living Dead like i’d expected.

Pieces, 09/28/2007

We’ve been back from Europe for a couple of weeks now, settled back into everyday life and now it’s time to sort out the pieces…

…the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival is next week right here in beautiful Portland! I missed it last year, so I’m really looking forward to attending this one.

…during the trip to Europe, I managed to finish up World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War and also read Nightwatch, the first volume of Sergei Lukyanenko’s horror/fantasy trilogy. The movie adaptation was exceptionally entertaining, but I was surprised to find that it is almost nothing like the books. The only real similarity is the characters themselves. Still, I recommend both the movie and the books as they are fantastic in their own ways. Look for a full review of the book trilogy once I finish off the other two in the series.

…it’s almost October, the greatest month of the year! That means it’s almost time for Horror Guy’s annual HorrorFest, the yearly all day horror movie marathon that we put on for our friends and loved ones. If you are going to be in the Portland, OR area on October 13th, drop me a line if you’d like to try and wrangle an invite, but space is limited.

…checked out Perfect Creature this past weekend ’cause I’d heard it was a good vampire flick. Don’t know who is spreading those lies ’cause this one is dull as dishwater. Bad acting, slow pacing and ridiculous plot. Steer clear unless you are suffering from insomnia.

…I just finished off the second season of Supernatural on DVD so I’m ready for the premiere of season three next week. This thing is still rockin’! I enjoyed season two even more than the first season. It is consistently better than 95% of the schlock that is pushed on us horror fans in the theaters these days. Highly recommended!

‘Mist’ New Poster and Stills

Don’t expect a third season of MOH.

Masters of Horror: We All Scream for Ice Cream

Twenty years ago Buster the Clown drove around in his Cheery Time ice cream truck, delivering smiles and tasty treats to the neighborhood kids. Buster would hop out and do magic tricks and give you a balloon animal for free and if you were the first to say his name, well then, you got your ice cream for free. Yes Sir, Buster was a delight for all the children in the neighborhood for years that is until a prank went horribly wrong and poor old Buster ended up a big ol pile of soft serve on the pavement. But Buster has learned that revenge is a dish best served cold from the grave, with two scoops, sprinkles on top and in a waffle cone!

We All Scream for Ice Cream is another episode from the Showtime series Masters of Horror, but dont get your hopes up to high, because this frozen treat is kind of a rocky road.

SE7EN COMIC - THURSDAY THIRST - SPOTLIGHT

Special Thanks to folks at Zenescope Entertainment, I was able to get my mitts on one of their premiere horror titles, SE7EN, based upon the David Fincher film featuring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, and an unforgettable box delivered by UPS. Since each sin was given its own story in this series, detailed in the history of each victim’s sin in the film, I decided to do a spotlight on each book and their creators. Overall, an excellent series giving fans a look behind the mirror on why John Doe did what he did, and how a man could ever live in and around… the seven sins.

Brain Hammer’s PICKS FROM THE CRYPT Vol.20: The H.G. Lewis BLOOD trilogy!

Gory greetings! This week’s PICKS FROM THE CRYPT are the three notorious horror films that comprise the legendary H.G. Lewis “Blood” trilogy: “Blood Feast,” “Two Thousand Maniacs,” and “Color Me Blood Red!” These pioneering efforts are personal favorites of mine, and should be considered mandatory viewing for all splatter flick fans.

Quentin Tarantino updates: Porn, INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, “Heroes”

I like Quentin Tarantino even when he acts like a lunatic, scares an airline stewardess, and addresses random D-list celebrities as his wife. Recently he has turned down a ton of high caliber projects, bitched about CASINO ROYALE, and claimed he will make porn. Here is a short list of what the hell this inglorious bastard is up to:

ALREADY DEAD Movie News & Spoilers

I love me some revenge, especially the bloody kind. ALREADY DEAD is screening at the Sitges Film Festival and it sounds awesome. Nothing beats good ole fashioned violent revenge except when the plot features a new twist.

Mick Garris Creates “Fear Itself,” “Masters of Horror” Cancelled?

Is Mick Garris abandoning “Masters of Horror”? That’s what it sounds like from this new press release. Garris and the creators of MoH are teaming up with Lionsgate to produce a show called “Fear Itself” for NBC. And based on the description below, there is absolutely no difference between the two shows other than the title and network. So why the change? I would assume they did it for the money. The Hollywood Reporter says:

Witchcraft 13 Finally Released!

The movie that only Horror Yearbook has been waiting for is finally here! Part 13 of one of horror’s longest running series Witchcraft 13: Blood of the Chosen, directed by the talented Mel House (Read Our Interview Here), has been picked up and distributed by York Entertainment.

Classic Horror Titties: Stacy Travis (HARDWARE)

Like many actresses Stacey Travis showed her tits in a horror movie (in this case, Hardware) before moving onto bigger roles. Her sister showed her titties more often but she didn’t do horror and isn’t a redhead so who cares? I just want to pay tribute to this movie and Stacey’s titties: Over 18 Only!

Ghost Encounters: The Queen Mary - Review

Ghost Encounters: The Queen Mary is a documentary film that ventures in to the paranormal. We are taken aboard a ship with our host, ghost investigator, Peter James. He partners up with Fiona Horne from the Sci-Fi channel’s “Mad, Mad House”. They guide us through a journey full of stories of the past and those that are still there now after all these years.

Five Out of Eight Films Confirmed For 8 Films to Die For

It looks like After Dark is bringing back their “8 Films to Die For,” which may or may not actually be 8 films this year. As you should know “8 Films to Die For” was three days, of horror films playing in theaters across the country. The films were supposed to be “too extreme for theaters,” but it turned out they were just not good enough for theaters. The bulk of the films were more suited for direct to DVD releases and “8 Films” left a sour taste in the horror fans mouths. It was a real shame, but maybe they can do better this year.

Reform School Girls - The Lost Art of Women in Prison Filmmaking

They don’t come much better than Reform School Girls (literally or figuratively). Where Deported Women of the SS Special Section takes the cake for being dark and brutal, Reform School puts the fun and sexy back into the WIP genre. With its scores of hot girls, rocking music, and all-star cast, it is definitely one Women in Prison film you don’t want to miss.
