Brain Hammer’s PICKS FROM THE CRYPT Vol.22: By Sword, By Axe, Bye Bye!

This week’s PICKS FROM THE CRYPT are a terrible trio of 80’s slasher flicks that are often overlooked or criminally underrated by fans and critics. I consider these flicks to be lost classics from the golden era of slashers. Sadly, as of yet there have been no proper dvd releases for these relatively obscure horror favorites, but I’d guess it’s only a matter of time. These are superior slashers that deliver the ample amounts of boobs and blood that deviants desire. LET THE BLOODSHED BEGIN!!!

Saw IV Takes Number 1

We all knew that Saw IV (Read Our Review Here) would be a hit, and we were not wrong. Saw pulled in $14.3 million on Friday, taking the number one spot over the Steve Carell comedy Dan in Real Life, which took the No. 2 spot with $4.1 million.

Pieces, 10/28/2007

Thrillz a’ poppin’ in the realm of all things fun and terrifying. Let’s examine
the pieces…

…just sat thru the Blu-Ray edition of the uncut/unrated
Hostel part
2
and I gotta say I actually enjoyed it better than the first one. This was
more like the kind of over the top, almost tongue-in-cheek kind of torture porn
I was hoping for from current horror wunderkind Eli Roth. There
were even a couple of twists that I didn’t see coming; always refreshing for
this horror guy. Watching it in hi-def was almost unbearable during one
masculinity-threatening scene, but Cridafer and I soldiered thru to the
cheer-worthy end.

…Cridafer got me a handy dandy iPhone as an early
birthday gift, which is going to make mobile blogging that much easier. Can’t
wait to try it out.

…remember those awesome pics I took in the catacombs beneath Paris? Someone has had the bright idea to
use them as a setting for a new horror flick. Check out Catacombs on FEARnet.

…the first collection of Joe Hill short
stories, 20th Century Ghosts, was just re-issued. The couple of stories I’ve
read so far have been…I guess transcendent would be the only way I know how to
describe them. Even if you are not a serious fan of the genre, I think you’d
really enjoy Hill’s touchingly creepy writing style.

…caught a showing
of 30 Days of Night last weekend and the
best I can say is…meh. It was ok I guess. Not the hair-raising adaptation of
the graphic novel that I was hoping for but good enough to pass a couple of
hours watching with some friends.

…the hosting service I use just
added the ability to embed YouTube videos so I finally broke down and registered
a channel. There’s not really any content yet but if either of my readers want
to bookmark it early, the location is www.youtube.com/horrorguywill
If anyone comes across an appropriately creepy video you’d like to see posted
here, just drop me a line.

…running a little late with the report, but
Horror Guy’s 7th Annual HorrorFest was a couple of weeks ago and there are
several new pics to be posted in my gallery. Keep a bloodshot eye out for those
and thanks to all the horror fans in attendance for making it another successful
gathering!

Saw IV (2007) Movie Review

Although at the end of yesterday’s film, one kid shouted out there better not be a Saw V. I did not have the heart to tell him that five and six are already in the pipeline.

1408

The Dolphin Hotel invites you to stay in any of its stunning rooms. Except one.

Since the loss of his young daughter, a writer has traveled around the country investigating reports of the paranormal and debunking them in a series of haunted-travel-guides. He’s really just looking for some evidence of an afterlife, something to let him know his little girl isn’t truly gone. So far he’s had no luck, then he gets a postcard warning him about the Dolphin Hotel, room 1408.

This movie really comes right out of left field. It didn’t do much in the box office, I don’t remember the Stephen King story it was based on at all, the back of the box compares it to The Shining which is a very dangerous game for a movie box to play, and despite having two big stars there wasn’t a whole lot of hype going on. Still, it’s good. It’s very, very good.

Complete 2007 After Dark Horrorfest Lineup Announced

On November 9th - 18th 2007, After Dark Horrorfest will be hitting over 350 theaters bringing you 8 NEW horror films you have never seen before. Here is the complete lineup.

Underworld Prequel Anyone?

If Hollywood can’t remake a movie they seem to have only two options, make a prequel or make it a musical, than make the musical a movie. Seems they decided prequel was the way to go with Underworld, which is getting ready to start shooting in New Zealand.

Naked Beneath the Water (2007) Movie Review

Mixing reality television shows with movies can often be problematic. It often adds an automatic cheesiness to the film. It is a fairly known thing that reality shows are far from reality. So having this a focus of a film makes it seem fake. One movie that actually raised on this challenge was American Dreamz. It was a satire on reality shows like American Idol and did an excellent job of comparing this to the political system in a metaphorical. However, many films that attempt this end up suffering because of it as in the cases of Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (Read Review), The Condemned (Read Review), and now Naked Beneath the Water.

Saw IV’s Dina Meyer Naked!

Dina Meyer from Saw IV, showed her breasts in Poodle Springs (1998), and in Starship Troopers (1997), plus others , but two should be enough for you. 18 older may look at the pictures below.

Some brilliant lonely individual has designed an Emergency Zombie Defense Station.

THE BIRDS remake Courtesy of Michael Bay and that “CASINO ROYALE” Director

It looks like Martin Campbell will be the director ballsy enough to take on the completely unnecessary remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS says the Hollywood Reporter. Campbell is the guy behind CASINO ROYALE and MASK OF ZORRO.

Video Gaming Vest Simulates Real Gunshots and is F’ing Awesome

I was just thinking the other day about the “violence in video games” controversy and have come to the conclusion that video games are not nearly violent enough. Then god, in the form of TN Games, designed the Third Space Vest to please my bloody gaming palette.

Some Really Great Alien vs Predator 2 Pictures

Women of SAW Naked: Betsy Russell

Since Saw IV mania has hit the Internet, and we never get any cool pictures or clips from the studios, we are doing what Horror Yearbook does best…acting sleazy. So here is the first of of our “Women of Saw Naked: Betsy Russell” who played Jill (whoever that is) in Saw III & Saw IV. Over 18 only!
