REVIEW: Getting Hay Wired

Getting Hay Wired by Halloween favorites, Hell in a Handbag! By Brian Kirst

With so many offshoots within the horror genre, it may be hard for a devoted fan to pick a favorite. To name a few: there’s the slasher movie, the ghost story, the currently popular torture porn and for those whose rubbery limbs reach far back enough – there’s the ingenious and bloodily campy Hag Horror. Dawning with the age of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane in the mid-60’s,…

INTERVIEW: Adam Rockoff

Adam Rockoff: Diving into Wicked Lake with the Master Slasher. By Brian Kirst

It’s rare that a book can be both seminal and entertaining, but author Adam Rockoff accomplished that feat with the highly praised Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film. This tome of appreciation for a much beloved, critically ignored genre was so influential that it was eventually made into a well crafted documentary with the help of none other than Rob Zombie.

Rockoff wisely rode…

Sony Ericsson Halloween Ghost Ad

Always love to see companies using horror in advertising. This is a spooky video campaign for Sony Ericsson called St Mary’s Ghost. The video in itself is not very scary, the St Mary’S hospital ghost looks more like a vampire to me, but viewers can enter their own or their friend’s mobile number, triggering a scary call from the ghost – spooky, just in time for halloween. Click on the link to visit stmarysghost.com to view the full video and to send a call from St Mary’s Ghost to your friends, or check out the abriged version below.

Horror Queen Lynn Lowry (The Crazies, Cat People, They Came From Within) is certainly in the Halloween spirit this year. Her short film Night Visit (www.bv-ent.net), featuring another offbeat, totally committed performance from Lowry, has been receiving raves, and her scare making future is certainly intact with such recent projects as Basement Jack and Heaven Help Me, I’m in Love making further waves.

The 4th Dimension is a meditative examination into the mind of an introverted genius who obsesses to solve the complexity of time. The 4th Dimension explores the dark and lonely world between dreams and reality.

REVIEW: 5 Moments Of Infidelity

5 Moments Of Infidelity by AngryPrincess

90 minutes
Directed by: Karen Gorman

When I was looking up info for the movie I read a really nasty review on it and was taken aback. I thought the movie was pretty damn good. They insinuate that the situations at hand here are not that common and are amped up for affect or viewing pleasures. Well let me tell you this, I could relate to Jacinta to the T! You live with an alcoholic mother and…

Ezra Buzzington, (www.ezrabuzzington.com) best known to horror fans as Goggle in The Hills Have Eyes remake, is one of the finest character actors working today – and his continued employment record with high profile directors (Alexandre Aja, The Farrelly Brothers) definitely bares that claim out. The passionate, articulate Buzzington has not only appeared in such modern horror opuses as Mirrors, Someone’s Knocking at the Door, The…

Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni

Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni: From Best Death to Best Actress By Brian Kirst

Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, Italian’s Queen of Screams, shocked the world this summer with her death scene in Mother of Tears. Indeed, many audience members proclaimed it the film’s best death scene and appreciated Tassoni’s ability to do more with her organs than most trained musicians.

Now, Tassoni has been nominated for Best Actress in a Professional Film, for her role in the well received The Dirt, at Fright Nights 2008 in Klagenfurt/Carinthia,…

Deadmonton Horror Film Festival

Like most really great ideas, the name of the Deadmonton Horror Film Festival owes its origins to a mixture of ingenuity and serendipity.

Sprouting from the roots of the Return to Odd marathon screenings put on by the departed Oddity video store (since re-named The Lobby, the owner of which, Kevin Martin, has a hand in running the current incarnation of the festival), as Deadmonton co-curator and co-head organizer Derek Clayton explains, they had to improvise when they weren’t able to…

Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival

You can get a head start on Halloween over the next four days as the ninth annual Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival unspools its collection of ghouls and ghosts on movie screens from Providence to Narragansett. And the best thing is, you’ll still have time to make your trick-or-treat costume, decorate the house with spider webs and flickering lights, and fill the bowls with miniature candies.

Between the Horror Film Festival’s parade of scary movies, its walking tour that will…
