Review: WildClaw Theatre’s The Dreams in the Witch House

Review: WildClaw Theatre’s The Dreams in the Witch House By Brian Kirst

WildClaw Theatre’s H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dreams in the Witch House is full of all the things that one would expect from Chicago’s premiere company devoted to works of horror and the macabre. There is plenty of mystery, dread, bloody murder and even an appearance from one of Lovecraft’s famously tentacled otherworldly monsters.

Most importantly, though, director-adaptor Charley Sherman provides a strong emotional core as we become spiritually invested in the quests…

‘Twilight’ Success May Mean New ‘Buffy’ Movie

A script by Joss Whedon has apparently already been completed for a “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” movie, presumably to star Sarah Michelle Gellar. The film likely never would have been made — but with “Twilight” raking in kazillions at the box office, studio chiefs are likely to greenlight it.

Reports the Herald-Sun Newspaper in Australia:

The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon?s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role.

Before it became a hit TV series, “Buffy” was the subject of a theatrical movie in 1992. The show easily outshone the movie..

Here’s a pretty absurd sci-fi movie for ya! Director Richard Clabaugh’s “Eyeborgs,” starring Danny Trejo.

An agent for the Dept. of Homeland Security uncovers a plot to assassinate the President using government surveillance robots known as Eyeborgs. A science fiction-action thriller in the tradition of the “Terminator” films. Also stars Luke Eberl and Megan Blake.

Cain Manoli – Greatly Gruesome

Cain Manoli: Entertainment’s Next Great, Gruesome Wonder! By Brian Kirst

Funny, forthright and talented musician-actor Cain Manoli (www.cainontheweb.com) most likely has produced envy in every horror wanna-be’s hearts with his first two leading roles. As Jeremy in Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave, Manoli not only gets to offer up the movie’s delirious title during its’ party sequence, but he practically steals the screen from all his undead co-stars with his honest and charismatic charm. As Leon in the…

REVIEW: [REC] (2007)

[REC] (2007): Reviewed by BRYAN SCHUESSER

Directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza made a Spanish film in the style that The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, and Quarantine (which is the U.S. remake of the film in review). All three of the aforementioned films made me nauseous. The shaky camera and in-focus/out-of-focus lensing drove me nuts, gave me a headache, and forced me to take “breaks” during the viewing of all three films. Now, with that viewpoint in mind, I still liked [REC] immensely. I…

REVIEW: Frankenstein (1931)

Frankenstein (1931):Reviewed by BRYAN SCHUESSLER

This is Director James Whale’s CLASSIC! I really enjoyed watching this film, again, years later. It was so nostalgic for me. I remember watching it when I was a wee little lad, sitting 1 foot away from the t.v., glued to it and in total awe and terror as to what the monster would do to the little girl he found. That scene of Frankenstein’s monster and the little girl from the village sitting by the lake and…

REVIEW:Let the Right One In (2008)

Let the Right One In (2008): Reviewed by BRYAN SCHUESSLER

Director Tomas Alfredson has blown me away with his indie vampire flick, Let the Right One In (LÃ¥t den rätte komma in)(2008). I really loved this film. Keep in mind, though, it is Swedish and does contain subtitles. I know that may sound like a “bummer” to most of you, but I guess that is the price you have to pay to watch this incredible tale of Oskar (KÃ¥re Hedebrant), a frail and nerdy…

Looking for an aweseome Blu-Ray horror movie present for a loved one, along with the $168 Wal-Mart Blu-Ray player you’re buying? Don’t want to get burned with a release that has shoddy picture quality? Here’s a quick and handy guide to some of the most important Blu-Ray horror releases out there.

One issue with Blu-Ray and horror is that so many horror titles are from old, grainy prints.

Jess Franco to Receive Goya Award

Legendary Spanish horror filmmaker Jess Franco is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Goya Award next year.

‘Severance’ Director Takes on ‘Black Death’

I wasn’t a fan of the British horror-comedy “Black Death.” But now the director, Christopher Smith, is set to replace Geoff Sax as helmer of “Black Death,” one of the more interesting medieval fear films being produced.

Set to star Sean Bean and Lena Headley, the film is set in Medieval England during the Black Death.

‘Hellraiser’ Hits Blu-Ray April 28

Anchor Bay, which has been putting out some of the very best horror Blu-Ray releases, is slating “Hellraiser” for release in the format April 28.

Anchor Bay’s releases of “Dawn of the Dead” and “Halloween” both look absolutely stellar.

‘Rec 2′ Began Shooting Today

We haven’t haven’t had a chance to post our review of “Rec” yet, but needless to say it’s a great film whose impact has been felt in the U.S. box office, already having been remade as “Quarantine”, another good movie. A sequel has been announced via press release: “The movie, a production of July Fernández for Filmax directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, starts some hours later of the ending of the first part. REC 2 will roll itself in Barcelona during six weeks. ”

A Spanish press release has announced that “Rec 2″ is shooting now! Here is the release:

Xavier Gens’ Next Is ‘City of Shadows’

“Frontiers” was one of the coolest horror movies of last year and proof perfect that no one is making better fear films than the French these days. Director Xavier Gens is now helming “City of Shadows” for Overlook Entertainment.

Overlook reports:

Paris, 1661: The City of Lights is a maze of streets filled with both dirt and enlightenment, a true paradise for all sorts of thieves and bandits where no one can walk about without risking his wealth and his life with every step.

The latest lieutenant general of the police apponted by Louis XIV, Nicolas De La Reynie, has his hands full with a sordid spree of murders by poison. He probes deeply into the fantastic ?Court of Miracles?, a mysterious and unknown city impenetrably buried in the heart of Paris with its own rules and its own king …
