Asia Argento – Mother of Tears, Land of the Dead, Stendhal Syndrome, Trauma

Asia Argento

With all the buzz about her father Dario Argento’s new The Mother of Tears, (the most recent of his movies in which his gorgeous daughter stars), the dark beauty Asia Argento is back in the horror movie spotlight. They have made several great suspenseful thrillers together, but her father is not the only horror master whose films she has been demanded for… she also starred in George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead.

Asia Argento

The Stendhal Syndrome is one of the most under-rated fright films in the Argento family filmography. It’s a tale involving an affliction (or syndrome) where one is overtaken with panic and dizzying hallucinations brought on by powerful emotions, such as those that one might experience while viewing a particularly remarkable piece of art. Asia’s character experiences this ‘Stendhal Syndrome’ as only the first of many horrors to be visited upon her in this macabre masterpiece from the fascinating Argento family.

The movie Trauma was also directed by her father, Dario, and it is very personal to the Argento bloodline. Asia Argento starred in this dark and bleak tale of an anorexic girl whose character is actually based on Asia’s sister, Anna, who passed on after the film’s release. It is a deeply tragic tale of death and loss. Yet clearly Asia still has a lust for life, a fiery spark and a “devil may care” attitude that proves she has more than enough star power of her own… and even if she did owe a little to her father, dear god, how much do we ALL owe the mighty Dario Argento?
